This website is about the legend Marilyn Manson
On the 5th of January 1969 in Canton, Ohio, Brian Hugh Warner' AKA' Marilyn Manson, was born to the parents of Hugh and Barb Warner. Marilyn had a colorful childhood, as a only child he would often be at his grandfather's house going through his sex toys and creating sex magazines to sell to his fellow classmates at school. He would also mischievously play with his cousin and shoot his BB gun with him for fun. Marilyn's parents raised their son a Episcopalian, and had him attend a religious private Christian schooling. It was during this faze that he became obsessed with hate for religion and his parents later agreeing to send him to a public schooling in his tenth grade.
After graduating from school, his parents moved to Fort Lauderdale in Florida as his father had accepted a better job there. Being in a new environment and feeling quite lonely, Marilyn wrote stories and later studied journalism and did theatre at a local community in Broward. From there, he went on to become a entertainment journalist for a magazine after being fired from his recent job at a local record store. In his new job he got the privilege of interviewing several famous people including the front man of the band "Nine Inch Nails". With this new career taking off, he would often attend rock clubs and later decided the he would like to start his own rock band.
His musical influences were that of KISS and Alice Cooper to Iggy Pop. He later admitted that his biggest influence in his musical career came from a surprisingly interest in David Bowie. Bowie's style and musical type was often being transformed into something new and exciting and this is where Manson would enjoy Bowie's style of music and style of outifits and later the media would write about Manson's eccentric style of fashion, his trademark looks that are like no other and his musical lyrical surprises that at times, shocked the world! Manson set a high benchmark for other up and coming artists who would follow in his musical world and also gained a trademark that no other would quite be able to live up to.
With musical influences such as "Ozzy Osborne" and "KISS", Marilyn went onto to seek out other people that had similar musical interests to himself and form his first band, "Marilyn Manson and The Spooky Kids". The name he would long be remembered for was derived from the movie icon "Marilyn Monroe" and psycho killer "Charles Manson". Long later, the band's name would be replaced with it just being "Marilyn Manson" and all members would be replaced as well. Manson also reunited with Trent Reznor, front man of the band he interviewed, "Nine Inch Nails" and later he would assist Manson is releasing his first three albums. This is also where Manson's trademark looks would take place with him often being seen with a stylized contact lense in one eye, black leather pants, heavy make up and his trademark jet black hair. His lyrical type, which is has an anti-Christian message became a huge market for those interested.
Manson's lyrics have sometimes been under attack for his satanic words and influences. Although the following for his music was different and original and still to this day is seen as that, he has been the topic of interest for those following in his musical direction. Marilyn quotes that those who have tried to copy his lyrics have made him feel, "embarrassed to be me because these people are doing a really sad, pitiful, shallow version of what I do". This attack was made to the band members of My Chemical Romance when Manson wrote the song "Mutilation is the most sincere form of flattery". In response to this, Gerard Way, the lead singer of My Chemical Romance claimed nothing Manson said would bring their band down. But in defence, Manson claimed that it was not a attack on that band in specific, but for all bands and person's who like to imitate his work as a musical writer and singer.
Over the years, Manson has had many band members. Manson being the lead singer has been accompanied by, Twiggy Ramirez who plays bass, Ginger Fish who plays drums and percussion, Chris Vrenna who also plays drums and percussion and keyboards for the band. All of these members are currently present members of Manson's well known band. Over the years many other members have been part of Manson's popular band. Zsa Zsa Speck was a former keyboard player as was Madonna Wayne Gacy, Olivia Newton Bundy and Gidget Gein were bass former bass players. Gidget Gein is now a deceased former member of the band. John 5, Daisy Berkowitz and Zim Zum were former guitarist as was Wes Borland. Sara Lee Lucas played drums and percussions for the band. Rob Holliday played bass and later guitars for the band, as did Mark Chaussee on guitar. On January 9, 2008, Manson posted a article on his My Space site claiming that former bassist Twiggy Ramirez would be rejoining the band after his departure in 2002, and that Tim Skold had departed the band, even though future collaborations with Skold have not been ruled out for the future. The duo, Manson and Ramirez, have been writing materials together and he will be a big part of the upcoming album that is set to be released this May 2009.
The latest studio album, "The High End of the Low" has been Marilyns project throughout all of 2008, with its release date being sometime in May 2009. Sean Beavan is the co-producer of this latest album and he also helped create three of Marilyn's huge albums including, "Eat Me Drink Me", "Antichrist Superstar" and" Mechanical Animals".
Marilyn not only made time for his devout to his band, but also had a string of romances with some varying ladies. Prior to 2005 he was linked to Michele Greenberg. His relationship with artist, actress and model, Dita Von Tesse, of whom he had long been a fan of and was a member of her website, grew stronger and later in 2005 went on to marriage. He had once approached her to be a dancer in his latest film clip and the two kept in constant contact. It was on Marilyn's 32nd birthday that the two became a official couple with him proposing to Greenberg on the 22nd of March 2004. They wed in a private ceremony at their home on November 2005 and later had a much larger ceremony on the 3rd of December 2005 with a huge list of guest invited, including that of Lisa Marie Presley. Their wedding pictures appeared in Vogue magazine 2006 with the heading "The Bride Wore Purple". But this marriage only lasted exactly 2 years and 31 days, with Tesse filing for divorce due to 'irreconcilable differences'. He was also engaged to actress Rose McGowan, who played a character on Charmed. Attention later rose again over his love life when he embarked on a relationship with actress Evan Rachel Wood. This relationship became the topic of interest in his marriage breakdown to Von Dita, who later spoke out saying "she didnt see it coming". Manson and Wood were friends for some time before forming a relationship and he once asked her to star in a upcoming horror film he was producing and pose for one of his water color paintings that he was also doing.
Marilyn's debut on film was first made in 1997 with his role as an actor in the production of Lost Highway. Since then he has appeared in a variety of roles and cameos including Party Monster, 1998 film by then girlfriend Rose McGowan, Jawbreaker. In 2004 he starred in film The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things, Rise, The Hire: Beat the Devil. He has also been interviewed in Michael Moore's political documentary about the Columbine Massacre. In this he discussed possible motivations for the massacre and said that his music may have in some way been some contributing factor towards this. He has appeared in animated form for the film Clone High. Marilyn went on to become the unofficial mascot and champion for the MTV series of Celebrity Death Match. In 2005 he told Rolling Stone magazine that he was changing his focus on career's and moving more toward film and television than he was musically inclined.
It was with magazine i-D that Marilyn told he was into art in the way of watercolors. He told the magazine that he sold his 5 minute concept pieces to drug dealers and shared his love of art stories. In 2002 his first art show The Golden Age of Grotesque was held in Los Angeles at the Contemporary Exhibition Centre. His work on display, was criticised for being that likened to the works of a 'psychiatric patient given materials to use as therapy' with those saying that his work would never be considered serious nor taken serious in the form of 'fine arts'. So Marilyn held a second exhibition two years later in September 2004 with the first night being in Paris and the second night being in Berlin. The show was named Trismegistus, which was also the centre piece of the show with the same name and was of a large, three headed Christ painted onto antique wooden panel from from a embalmers portable table. Manson named this self proclaimed art movement as Celebritarian Corporation with a slogan saying "We will sell our shadow to those who stand within it". Celebritarian Corporation is the namesake of his actual art gallery he owns in Los Angeles.
In 1997 former guitarist and songwriter Scott Putesky filed suit against Manson seeking unpaid royalties to his contribution to the bands output up to that period, including the release of Antichrist Superstar. The outcome of this was confidential, but was wrapped up in 1998. A civil battery suit was filed by David Diaz in a Minneapolis federal court over claims of violence at a concert by Manson in Minneapolis, Minnesota on the 27th of October 2000. The courts found in Manson's favor on this one.
Manson's is currently suing for a 20 million dollar breach of contract. Stephen Gregory Bier Jr, known to fans as Madonna Wayne Gacy is suing the singer songwriter for the enormous figure due to information that the lead singer used all the bands income to fuel his lavish lifestyle.
He claims that Manson used the funds from the whole bands account to buy things for himself only and was telling them that he was buying items with money he was getting from his autobiography "The Long Road Out of Hell". Along with swastika tiles and Nazi coat hangers, Manson also used the lump sum of cash to fuel his cocaine and Vicodin habit he had. He also used this cash to pay for his rehab stint he was undertaking, costing a whopping $3,000 a day!
Manson retaliated in saying that "The fact he is claiming I have treated him unfairly, financially, is ridiculous. And was quoted as stating, "I would never spend my money on a Chinese skeleton girl, that would be crossing the line. It's a Chinese boy, for the record!
